Case Study: White + Wong's

Building partnerships and connections are what we do best at Henry & Gray. So we're always thrilled about clients working with us to help bring their brand to it’s truest life!

White + Wong's wanted their work uniforms to really speak to their brand values and there is no greater assignment for Henry & Gray. Their remit was clear, they didn't just want to have brand logos on functional uniforms but instead, they were aiming for a uniqueness that their people were proud to wear and that spoke to the heart of who White + Wong’s really is and what it means to dine there, work there and just to be in the exceptional experience they offer.

They chose to work with us as we could demonstrate achieving this kind of result for our other clients. We also deliver customized uniforms and brand solutions for one of the other famous Good Group Hospitality restaurants, Harbourside, and have been for some time.   We started with White + Wong's at the Viaduct in Auckland and now work with their other amazing NZ restaurants in Auckland and Queenstown.  We’re so excited to also be taking the vibe to Australia where we work with White + Wong's in Sydney and soon to be the newest venue in Melbourne, which will open in January.

The Client

White + Wong's is an Asian fusion restaurant chain in New Zealand and Australia.  They have been open for over 10 years and has built a strong reputation for its delicious food and unique culinary experience.

The Brief

With being an Asian fusion restaurant, as a base they knew they wanted a black mandarin collar shirt and black waist apron for front of house staff while black t-shirts and bib aprons for kitchen staff and chefs uniform. They clearly stated that fabrics should be hard-wearing and easy to care for.  By doing this, we could incorporate their uniforms into their brand colours, image, menus and the venue's vibe.

The Solution

We created a custom black mandarin collar shirt with cyan contrast fabric, buttonhole and button stitch. We also incorporated a tab sleeve to ensure staff could roll the sleeves up but still do it in a structured and neat way. The fabric was a cotton polyester fabric to give a good mix of comfort and durability. Custom black waist and bib aprons were created with sizes and pockets unique to requirement. Black t-shirts were chosen from high-quality stock items in the lightest weight fabrics to suit kitchen staff. We also incorporate key slogans from White + Wong's menu to further bring some fun into the t-shirts and inspire the team and importantly the client.

We also thought about production and delivery lead times for the purpose of lifecycle and repeat orders. We selected a range of custom and ready-stock products to optimize the process of reordering. For example, T-shirts that needed regular reordering were ready stock items, and shirts and aprons that we could order in cycles were custom ordered to achieve the highest quality, best possible pricing and highest level of brand customisation. Local stock was held of custom aprons, and the shirts were planned for summer seasonal reordering.

So, if you're in need of rebranding or are simply wanting to add more life into your uniforms, we suggest you contact us. Your brand is your business and we will help you build that value.
